The old bills that we cannot afford to pay

IN the past year we’ve failed to pay 15 million bills. And it’s no wonder because each of us is over budget by an average £3,600 a year.

Essential bills are now costing us £1,360 a month and collectively we’re forking out a whopping £405bn a year.

In all, one in five of us has missed an essential bill in the past 12 months.

More than two million people have missed a mortgage payment in that period, which is hardly surprising with one in four paying more than £500 a month and one in 20 paying more than £1,000 a month.

Credit cards and loans bills are the most common to miss, followed by childcare, mortgages, rent, water bills and council tax.
